Curcumin - Curcumin contains an anti-oxidant that prevents cancer cells and tumors from growing in the body.  According to Bharat Aggarwal, PhD (a professor of cancer medicine at the University of Texas M.D.) it helps  prevent a variety of diseases, including multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and breast, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers. Curcumin makes a perfect ingredient for curry dishes.

Pistachios - A research from the University of Toronto shows that pistachios may reduce the risk of diabetes by decreasing the effect of carbs on blood sugar levels. Because of this, they are called the new health nuts. Protein, fiber, and healthy monounsaturated fat found in pistachios slows down carbohydrate absorption in the body.

Brussels sprouts Studies show that eating brussels sprouts at least bi-monthly reduces the incidence of colon cancer. Brussels sprouts contain a compound called allyl isothiocyanate which causes precancerous cells to self-destruct.

Dark chocolate - Dark chocolates are rich in flavonoids which prevent clogged arteries and reduce heart disease risks. Archives of Internal Medicine shares that consuming 3.6 ounces of dark chocolate daily can lowering blood pressure.

Cherries - A new animal study from University of Michigan shows that consuming a powdered version of tart cherries can lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels. It also  decreases the body's ability to store fat in the liver.

Tomatoes - As we all know, tomatoes are full of lycopene. Lycopene helps lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, and macular degeneration. This is true for red and orange tomatoes. But studies show that orange ones offer two and a half times more of these benefits!
