Stay Away From Diabetes

More and more people are being diagnosed with diabetes these days that it’s starting to be really scary for most people. If you don’t have it yet, now is the best time for you start working on some preventive measures.

Just to be clear, we are talking here about type 2 diabetes because it is the more common one. And it is preventable if you just live a healthier lifestyle.

Here are some of the things that you can do to lessen your chances of having type 2 diabetes.

1. Maintain your ideal weight.

If you are overweight, then do your best to lessen your weight or even better, reach your ideal weight. Studies have shown that the more overweight a person is, the higher their risk of getting diabetes.

2. Eat foods that are low in the GI.

GI here means glycemic index which is the ranking of foods and how they affect a person’s glucose levels. The lower the food in the glycemic index, the better. This means it is slower for the body to digest the food, absorbed, and metabolized. This includes fruits like apples, pears, plums, peaches, and grapes. Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, carrot, spinach, and cauliflower. Other food items that have low GI are eggs, yogurt, kidney beans, fish, and turkey.

3. Be more active.

If you live a more active lifestyle, then chances are you are closer to your ideal weight. Also, you will be able to burn more calories and use up your body’s glucose. So do more sports or at least walk around more. A good rule of thumb is to brisk walk for at least 30 minutes each day. It doesn’t have to be a continuous 30 minutes, you can spread it out within the day, perhaps during your break time or even while you’re shopping.

Stay Healthy and Diabetes-Free

You really have to be responsible and determined in living a healthier lifestyle if you want to lessen your chances of being a diabetic. It can be difficult at times but it is definitely possible.
